No, Morgan Wallen did not donate $30m for Texas flood relief or personally distribute food
The stories originated on fake news websites that were then shared around in fan forums on Facebook to gain traffic
CLAIM
Articles and Facebook posts said country music star Morgan Wallen had donated between $300,000 and $30 million towards flood relief in Texas. They also said Wallen was on the ground in Texas comforting families and handing out supplies.
BACKGROUND
Articles from unreliable news websites – with questionable URLs – were being shared around on Facebook, containing claims that country music star Morgan Wallen had donated sums of between $300,000 and $30 million for flood relief in Texas.
In a statement allegedly released by his publicist, Wallen was quoted as saying: “I may sing about small towns and backroads, but when real folks are hurting, it’s time to show up. Texas needs us right now.”
The article said that Wallen showed up “at Ground Zero” in Texas, writing that “fans were completely stunned to see Morgan Wallen actually appear in person at one of the hardest-hit towns in central Texas. Wearing jeans, boots, and a baseball cap, the singer joined volunteers distributing food, carrying supplies, and comforting grieving families”.
As can be seen in the screenshots below, the article used Cyrillic and Greek characters in place of some letters, which also raised suspicion about the provenance of the story.
The article said photos and videos of Wallen working with firefighters and first responders had gone viral, but there was no content anywhere on the internet to suggest he had been there.
Another article on the same website put the sum donated at $300,000, and added that “in a heartfelt announcement, Wallen vowed that every dollar earned in the first six months from his upcoming single ‘Texas’ … would be donated directly to rebuilding and healing efforts in the state”.
Morgan Wallen is one of the most popular musical artists in the U.S. at the moment, particularly so in Texas and across the South. He is one of the biggest-selling artists of 2025 and has seen his latest album sitting at the top of the Billboard charts for weeks.
On Facebook, where these articles were being shared in fan groups, Wallen’s fans were commenting in earnest about the singer’s generosity.
Similar articles on news sites with equally suspicious URLs were also circulating, relating to donations and help by other celebrities such as Shakira, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, and Jelly Roll. Some of the stories were rooted in truth: Shakira did in fact pledge to donate a portion of her recent Texas show to disaster relief in the state.
METHOD
There was no evidence in credible news sources or on his own social media profiles that Morgan Wallen had donated a sum of money to help the victims of the Texas floods.
Even on social media, there were no eyewitness accounts that Morgan Wallen had been in Texas to personally help out with the relief efforts.
A PR representative for Morgan Wallen confirmed to Eurovision News Spotlight that the stories had no basis in reality. “We’re not sure where these stories came from. You are correct: they are not true.”
Fake news stories like this only work if they are somewhat believable. Wallen did donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross amid recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene, which affected his home state of Tennessee.
His PR representative added that a statement on a Texas flood relief donation by the country singer had not been released as “we’re still determining how best to support the community”.
The ‘news outlet’ that published the stories was not posing as a real news organisation and did not have a name. The URL posted to Facebook redirected to a different URL for the article, neither of which was related the name of a real news site.
Fake news stories featuring famous people are a regular occurrence, with the operators of these sites aiming to get clicks and pull on the heartstrings of devoted fans.
