Video claiming to show missile attack in Ukraine is video game footage
A viral Twitter video claiming to show Ukraine destroying Russian tanks is actually from the military simulation game Arma 3, not real combat footage
A video published on Twitter on October 17 claimed to show the Ukrainian military targeting and destroying Russian tanks with anti-armour missiles in Ukraine. The video however is from the Arma 3 military tactical shooter video game.
BACKGROUND
A video published by Twitter user @NewsVsa on October 17, claimed to show the Ukrainian military targeting and destroying Russian tanks with anti-armour missiles in Ukraine. METHOD
Using a reverse Google image search, the Eurovision Social Newswire team was directed to a YouTube video entitled, "Ukraine NLAW Anti-Tank Missile Destroyed 2 Russian Tanks - Arma 3 Game (Military Simultaion)".
The YouTube channel’s description reads: “All Military Simulations are created in video game ARMA 3. All events in my videos are fictitious! All videos are recorded and edited by me personally.”
The video, published on July 20 of this year, shows a six-minute and 30-second clip of gameplay of the computer game Arma 3. At 2:20 in the footage, we observe what appears to show a missile or rocket attack on a convoy of army tanks. The footage is an exact match for the video shared by @NewsVsa on October 17. https://youtu.be/Lvm58xDISdM?t=140 From the analysis, we can conclude that the footage shared on Twitter by @NewsVsa is computer game footage.
VERDICT
The video does not show Ukrainian forces targeting Russian tanks in Ukraine. The footage is from a computer game.
