CLAIM: Footage circulating on social media following Joe Biden's arrival in Belfast on April 11 purported to show the U.S. President failing to recognise British Prime Minster Rishi Sunak.
RATING: The clip used in these social media posts has been edited to give that impression.
BACKGROUND
U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on April 11 where he was greeted on the tarmac by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
In the aftermath of the meeting, videos began to circulate online of Sky News' coverage of the greeting, claiming to show that Biden had failed to recognise Sunak.
"Arriving in Belfast, the Biden did not recognise the Prime Minister of Great Britain and pushed the "boy" away to salute the gray-haired military man," Twitter user @Spriter99880 wrote.
Sharing the same video, German-Finnish Internet entrepreneur and political activist Kim Dotcom, tweeted: "Joe Biden doesn’t recognize the little brown guy (Prime Minister of UK) and pushes him away to salute the old white guy. The look on the face of @RishiSunak is priceless."
METHOD
Comparing the video shared by @Spriter99880 with the original news coverage by Sky News, we see that in @Spriter99880's version, seconds of footage that shows Joe Biden and Rishi Sunak shaking hands and exchanging words has been cut out to make it appear that Biden was ignoring or did not know who the prime minister was.
From this, we can conclude that the version shared by @Spriter99880 and other social media users has been edited to make it look like Joe Biden failed to recognise British Prime Minster Rishi Sunak.
RATING: U.S. President Joe Biden did not fail to recognise British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after arriving in Belfast on April 11. The video has been edited.
